Bladder cancer: Anktiva plus BCG gains an expanded indication

Who may be eligible
Adults with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer; the expansion includes high-grade papillary-only tumors.
Why it may matter
Additional eligible patients can discuss this treatment option with their urologic oncology team.
Limits and safety
FDA warns that delaying cystectomy may lead to metastatic disease. Assess adverse effects, pathology and treatment timing.
Ask your doctor
Does my disease meet the BCG-unresponsive definition, and how do bladder-preserving treatment and surgery compare for me?

Colon cancer: a new adjuvant option for stage III dMMR disease

Who may be eligible
Stage III mismatch repair-deficient colon cancer. Atezolizumab was approved with a fluoropyrimidine and oxaliplatin; pediatric age and weight criteria differ by formulation.
Why it may matter
Eligible postoperative patients can discuss an immunotherapy-containing regimen, supported by a disease-free-survival benefit in the trial.
Limits and safety
This does not apply to all colorectal cancers. Confirm dMMR, stage and surgery history, and assess immune-mediated adverse reactions.
Ask your doctor
Has my tumor been tested for mismatch repair deficiency, and what are the expected benefits and risks for me?

FDA · 2026-10-07 · FDA approved · Maintenance indication

HER2-positive breast cancer: tucatinib maintenance combination approved

Who may be eligible
Adults with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer following induction treatment, with tucatinib plus trastuzumab and pertuzumab.
Why it may matter
Adds a maintenance option. The trial showed a progression-free-survival benefit; overall-survival data were immature.
Limits and safety
The label includes a boxed hepatotoxicity warning and other risks including diarrhea. Monitoring and tolerability require review.
Ask your doctor
Have I completed appropriate induction therapy, and how does this regimen fit my disease and liver function?

FDA · 2026-10-02 · FDA approved · Previously untreated disease

CLL/SLL: pirtobrutinib indication expands to selected untreated patients

Who may be eligible
Adults with previously untreated chronic lymphocytic leukemia or small lymphocytic lymphoma and no known 17p deletion.
Why it may matter
Adds an option to discuss with hematology. Trial evidence showed a progression-free-survival benefit; overall-survival data were immature.
Limits and safety
It is not an option for every CLL/SLL patient. Assess 17p status, treatment need and risks including infection, bleeding, cytopenias and arrhythmias.
Ask your doctor
Do I need treatment now, what is my 17p result, and how do the available options compare?
