WHEN COVERAGE FEELS OUT OF REACH

The difficult questions are where we begin.

Immigration-status barriers?

No green card, visitor status and being undocumented require different assessments. We start with your actual circumstances and check possible insurance or care routes.

Already diagnosed?

Review coverage for the existing illness, effective dates and treatment authorizations. Being able to buy a policy does not establish that it will pay for your illness.

Unsure where to turn?

Review status, illness, hospital and cost questions together, then clarify available assistance, requirements and next steps.

WHAT WE DO

Choosing health insurance
starts with understanding your options.

HealUSA helps foreign nationals explore private health insurance options in the United States and navigate the application process. The plans available and the assistance we can provide depend on each person’s circumstances.

ELIGIBILITY
01

Understand eligibility

Review your immigration status, where you will live and when you need coverage. Identify the eligibility requirements that must be confirmed with the insurer.

COVERAGE
02

Compare plans and coverage

Review premiums, out-of-pocket costs, provider networks and coverage restrictions in light of your budget and healthcare needs.

APPLICATION
03

Application assistance

Get help organizing the required documents and application steps. The insurer’s written confirmation determines whether an application is accepted, when coverage begins and which benefits apply.

YOUR PATH TO COVERAGE

Four steps to a clearer plan.

Confirm which plans you are eligible to apply for, review the costs and terms, then complete the application and verify when coverage begins.

01

Tell us about your situation

Discuss your state of residence, immigration status, budget and desired coverage dates.

02

Review your options

Verify the plan name, eligibility requirements, provider network and covered benefits.

03

Understand the costs

Confirm insurance premiums, out-of-pocket expenses and assistance fees as separate costs.

04

Prepare your application

Prepare the documents the insurer requires, then obtain your policy and written confirmation of its effective date.

COST & COVERAGE

Know what you will pay
and what your plan covers.

Planning estimate: approximately $1,000 per month

This is a preliminary budget estimate provided by the company, not a confirmed quote for a specific insurance plan. Eligibility, whether pricing is per person or per family, and whether service fees are included still need to be confirmed. Actual premiums depend on your circumstances and the insurer’s quote.

Premiums

The amount you pay to keep your insurance active. Before enrolling, confirm the plan name, written quote, payment schedule and renewal terms.

Out-of-pocket costs

In addition to premiums, review the deductible, copays, coinsurance and annual out-of-pocket maximum. You may have to pay the full cost of services the policy does not cover.

Service fees

Before proceeding, confirm HealUSA’s assistance fees and exactly which services they include in writing.

Benefit limits

Plans subject to the relevant ACA protections generally cannot impose annual or lifetime dollar limits on essential health benefits. This does not mean all treatments are covered or that you will have no out-of-pocket costs. The terms of any specific plan discussed with HealUSA must still be checked.

MY STORY · A CAREGIVER’S JOURNEY

Our family’s five years of cancer care in America.

A caregiver’s account by Glory Gao
A story of caring for a loved one and holding a family together.

Our family’s story:
five years of cancer care in America

My name is Glory. People often ask why I help families seek medical care in the United States. The answer is simple: I have been through that difficult journey myself.

My wife, Yuanyuan Wang, was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2015. When the cancer returned in December 2018, I decided to bring her to the United States for treatment. Over the next five years, we faced treatment, caregiving, raising our children and everyday life together as a family.

I want to share what we experienced with others considering medical care in the United States, and to remember the hope and dignity that shaped those years.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Key questions about status, illness and insurance barriers

Clarify immigration status, eligibility and disease coverage separately before choosing a route.

Does having no green card mean I cannot get health insurance?

No green card, a temporary visa and being undocumented are different situations. Undocumented immigrants cannot enroll in Marketplace coverage. Other options must be checked against your location, immigration status and the specific product. HealUSA helps clarify your circumstances and explore possible routes.

Can I apply after a cancer diagnosis or another illness?

A diagnosis does not automatically make you uninsurable. If you qualify for Marketplace coverage, a pre-existing condition cannot by itself be used to deny coverage, increase your premium or exclude essential health benefits. Enrollment and effective-date rules still apply. Other products require a separate review of pre-existing-condition terms. We help distinguish eligibility to apply from coverage for your existing illness.

What can HealUSA do when ordinary insurance channels have not worked?

Tell us your immigration-status category, location, diagnosis and preferred hospital. HealUSA helps review potential plans, disease coverage, provider networks, costs and application requirements. If insurance is not available, we can discuss which care-coordination and cost-planning services we can provide or arrange. Any proposed route must be confirmed by the relevant organizations.

Can someone traveling to the U.S. on a visitor visa apply?

This requires an individual review. A valid visa does not automatically establish eligibility for a health plan. Travel or visitor insurance should not be assumed to cover treatment for an existing illness. Confirm residency and status requirements, purpose of travel, pre-existing-condition terms and effective dates before proceeding.

Will a new policy pay for current treatment or earlier bills?

Do not assume so. Coverage for a diagnosed condition, planned treatment and costs incurred before the effective date must each be checked. A policy does not guarantee payment for every treatment. Verify networks, authorizations, drugs and cost sharing, and obtain written confirmation from the insurer.

Can HealUSA guarantee insurance for everyone without status or with an existing illness?

No universal guarantee is possible. HealUSA helps investigate and verify routes for people facing status-related barriers or pre-existing-condition concerns. Before deciding, you should know what is available, what remains unconfirmed and what is excluded.

REAL EXPERIENCE · GLORY GAO

A real family’s experience with insurance and care after diagnosis

After Glory’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and later experienced a recurrence, their family sought treatment in the U.S. In his published account, their family purchased private insurance suited to their circumstances. It paid much of the treatment cost, with premiums, cost sharing and insurer review still applying.

This personal account does not establish that an undocumented person obtained coverage. It does not specify the family’s exact eligibility status or complete policy terms at enrollment and does not guarantee the same outcome for others.

PERSONAL NOTES · A caregiver’s account by Glory Gao

Three things to organize before seeking medical care in America

When you accompany a loved one through treatment, medical records, communication and daily life all need attention. Putting things in writing can make the next steps easier to manage.

  1. Create a medical timeline. Arrange test results, treatment records and medication lists by date so you can find them easily and explain the medical history clearly.
  2. Write down your questions. Confirm appointments, document requirements and interpreting arrangements ahead of time. Make a list of the questions you want to ask during the visit.
  3. Plan for the whole family. Think through accommodation, transportation, your children’s routines and time for the caregiver to rest.

Based on the preparation notes in Glory Gao’s caregiver journal. Confirm appointments, costs and whether insurance applies directly with the relevant organizations.

GUIDE 01 · PREPARATION

What should I have ready for an initial insurance consultation?

Have your state of residence, immigration status, preferred coverage start date, budget and any hospitals you want to check ready to discuss. The insurer’s application requirements determine which documents you will need.

For an initial inquiry, there is no need to enter medical records, identification numbers or other sensitive documents on this page.

GUIDE 02 · BENEFIT LIMITS

What does “no dollar limit on benefits” actually mean?

HealthCare.gov explains the protections against annual and lifetime dollar limits on essential health benefits. Whether these protections apply to a particular plan depends on its type and policy terms.

Benefit limits, out-of-pocket maximums and covered services mean different things. Having no dollar limit on certain benefits does not mean that every hospital, medication or treatment is covered.

GUIDE 03 · TOTAL COSTS

Will I have other medical costs besides my monthly premium?

You may. In addition to premiums, a plan may require deductibles, copays and coinsurance. The annual out-of-pocket maximum generally applies to eligible, covered services from in-network providers. Premiums and services the plan does not cover do not count toward that maximum.

GUIDE 04 · ELIGIBILITY

Can a foreign national apply for the same health insurance as a U.S. resident?

Eligibility must be checked for each person. Nationality and budget alone do not determine which plans you can apply for. Requirements vary by insurance program and product, including where you live, your immigration status and when you apply.

For Marketplace plans, the official eligibility guidance is a useful starting point. You will still need to verify eligibility for the particular plan discussed with HealUSA.
